New Brunswick Day set a record for visitors to iconic tourist destination Hopewell Rocks this year.
Property Manager Noel Hamann says they average about 4,000 people for New Brunswick Day attendance.
He says their previous record was in 2003, with a little over 4,300 but they shattered that number this year.
“We had a record 6,360 guests, certainly a very exciting time, a very positive time,” says Hamann. “Really all the staff had to step up, our resources were certainly put to the test but a very positive day.”
Hamann says part of the reason was the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture waived fees for all visitors, regardless of where they came from.
“Notably, of the 6,300 people on site, close to 1,900 were from New Brunswick, so that definitely represents an increase,” says Hamann.
He says it was great to allow everyone to come visit the attraction for free, to see what the Rocks has to offer.
