The province is currently under a fire ban, but the Department of Energy Resource says all it would take is about half an inch of rain over an extended period of time to lift that.
Provincial Duty Officer Stephen Tulle says the number of fires across the province this year, is up, compared with last year, “Provincially, we are still up in the number of fires to date over last year by about 50. We are down a bit in the number of hectares that have burned. Our staff have been very quick to get on those fires.”
Tulle say the heat is an issue, but when accompanied by humidity, it helps to keep things in check. It adds a little bit of moisture that makes it harder for grass and trees to burn.
