Moncton City Manager Jacques Dubé Moving On After Seven Years

After seven years, Moncton City Manager Jacques Dubé is moving on to a different organization.

Dubé joined the City in August of 2009, and has led the municipality through a number of significant events, projects, and initiatives including the Downtown Centre.

He says today is bitter sweet as he prepares to move on.

“I’m going to miss terribly my team, and Mayor and Council, you know we’re all very proud of the work that the team did, and I was part of that team for the last seven years,” says Dubé. “It’s a fairly emotional day, but there’s a time to do things, and there’s a time to move on.”

He says being a City Manager anywhere is tough and stressful, and eventually it becomes time to move on.

“At this point, I’m walking away with my head time, but at the same time I’m very grateful to the City of Moncton for having faith in me, and of all the awesome accomplishments the team did, the team in which I played a part, and only a part,” says Dubé.

He adds City Managers tend to occupy their roles for about five to six years and then move on to allow someone new to take over.

“I told Council when I was hired in 2009, that I’d be there for five years, and then I overstayed that mandate by a couple of years just because of the Downtown Centre and getting that done,” says Dubé. “But now it’s time to move on and take on another challenge personally and professionally.”

Dubé says some of the highlights during his tenure were hosting world class sporting events like FIFA, huge concerts on Magnetic Hill like U2 and AC/DC as well as getting the Downtown Centre, and the Downing Street Project underway.

Dubé’s last day is August 23rd, and an interim City Manager will be appointed by City Council.

The City will begin a national executive search for a new City Manager immediately.
