It’s summertime and many of us may be preoccupied with activities and not thinking about helping those less fortunate.
But the need is great this summer for Food Depot Alimentaire which is running dangerously low on food.
Executive director Chantal Senecal say they are in desperate need of staple items such as canned goods, rice and pasta.
“Not a lot of people are working or actively out there doing food drives or fundraising. However, we have noticed a big decline in donations both from the business community as well as the general public,” she notes.
Senecal says demand has gone up recently and she attributes that to the opening of the Peter McKee Community Food Centre which is more accessible than the food banks it replaced.
