Former New Brunswick RCMP Commanding Officer Roger Brown Says Memorial Is Fitting

The former Commanding Officer of the New Brunswick RCMP says the memorial is fitting and shows the members beyond their uniform.

Roger Brown says the sculptures will keep the memories of Doug, Dave and Fabrice alive forever.

He adds he will visit the memorial often.

“It’s not just the statue, it’s not just the monument, it’s the park, and it’s a place to come to reflect, a place to come to deal with the pain that everybody will carry for quite some time,” says Brown. “And it’s also a place to heal and try to move forward.”

He says what is now called Honour Garden is a peaceful place to reflect, and allow everyone who wishes to feel closer to Fabrice, Dave, and Doug.

“What I will do is come back and spend some time here by myself as well, and try and get some closure moving forward, and I think everybody will do that at some point in time,” says Brown. “But those things are personal and you need to figure out the right time, and I will be here often without a doubt.

Brown says he will be looking into the eyes of all three men’s statues hoping they will be looking back at him.

“These three individuals, these three members, these three friends that are moved on, and it’s not easy but they’re gone,” says Brown. “But then again you look there and they’re not, they’ll be remembered forever and ever and this monument is a tribute to that.”

Brown says while he was included in the creative process, he hadn’t seen the final product until Saturday.
