In light of the recent tragedy at the Cincinnati Zoo when officials shot and killed a rare gorilla to save a little boy who had climbed into its enclosure, the Magnetic Hill Zoo is reviewing its protocols.
Zoo Manager Bruce Dougan says it’s important that the emergency response team knows what to do when something goes wrong.
“We practice our protocols every six months. We have protocols for wild animal escapes, people getting into exhibits and those types of things,” he notes.
Although there are variables and decisions often have to be made in a split second, Dougan adds everyone is familiar with what their duties are.
