Campground owners and R-V dealers are fighting an attempt by the federal government to remove their small business tax deduction.
The owner of the campground at Harding’s Point, Howard Heans says audited campgrounds in Ontario and Quebec have seen their bills go up by 50 thousand to as much as 250 thousand dollars.
Heans says on top of that, there’s the impending 2 per cent increase in the HST, a 2 per cent increase in power rates and the possibility campgrounds will be reclassified as recreational-residential for tax purposes. Whether that reclassification will mean higher property taxes remains to be seen.
Heans warns campgrounds in New Brunswick could lose business to Maine if the taxes here go too high.
