The new Peter McKee Community Food Centre on St. George Street won’t be fully operational for another week or so.
Construction on the former Garrison Building is ongoing which will bring several area food banks under one roof.
Food Depot Alimentaire executive director Chantal Senecal says the centre is helping clients as well as anyone in an emergency situation.
“We’re definitely not where we want to be in terms of service but we do have staff there that are bringing people through quite quickly and everybody has been really positive,” she notes.
According to Senecal, most clients seem pleased with the changes so far including how much food they get and the number of options available for fresh fruits and vegetables.
