Food Prices Outstrip Inflation Rate

The Consumer Price Index rose 1.7% in the 12 months to April after increasing 1.3% in March but if you exclude gasoline, inflation stood at 2 per cent.

Energy prices declined 3.2% in the 12 months to April.

Food prices at stores were up 3.3% in the 12 months to April with fresh vegetables up by more than 11 per cent, fresh fruit by 11 per cent and meat by one and a half per cent.
