With construction for the downtown centre solidly underway, Downtown Moncton Centreville Inc is looking forward to the future.
DMCI President Derek Martin says the project is breathing a sense of hope and excitement into residents and business owners in the city.
“Theoretically it’s always been there, it’s always been a big conversation but now I think it’s finally something tangible that’s happening in our city,” says Martin. “And I think it kind of unites everyone in our downtown, in our city to actually see something physical taking shape.”
Martin says there are many groups who can be excited about this major development.
“Not only residents, but also business owners, developers, before it was always “Is it going to happen? Is it going to happen?”,” says Martin. “Now it is happening, not only on paper, but in true reality, in true form.”
He adds “everyone is feeling the buzz about it, now it’s springtime so now we’re seeing things happening. I think a lot of people are curious what other intended or unintended consequences are going to breed from that, but I’m excited to see what will take shape.”
Martin believes while it will take some time for the full economic impact of the new centre to be realized, he suggests we are seeing the beginning of growth and change already.
