UPDATE: RCMP Searching For Suspect After Robbery At National Bank On Elmwood Drive

Codiac RCMP are searching for a suspect after a bank robbery on Elmwood Drive.

Several cruisers were in the area around the National Bank with lights on shortly after 11:30.

Denis Pelletier was inside the bank and witnessed the whole event.

He says he heard a man come in loudly stating he wanted to rob the bank.

“And I basically did not take it for serious at the beginning because we’re from Moncton which is a very safe location,” says Pelletier. “In about 30 seconds I turned around and everybody was actually on the floor and he was taking money from the bank and I put myself on the floor as well and waited it out.”

Corporal Mathieu Roy says the employees at the National Bank were a little shaken up but otherwise fine.

Branch Manager David Michaud confirmed it was a difficult time for the employees, but confirmed no one was injured.

Pelletier says he didn’t get a great look at the suspect but managed to confirm one detail.

“He had a handgun, I could not tell you exactly what kind of handgun it was from what I saw he took the money,” says Pelletier. “I was on the floor, I couldn’t see him specifically and it didn’t last more than two or three minutes, and he ran out.”

Corporal Roy confirmed the RCMP had video surveillance, and were using descriptions from other employees to search for the suspect.

A K9 unit was on scene at first, although the dog was taken away fairly quickly, apparently without finding a trail, although that is unconfirmed.

An RCMP Forensics Investigator also showed up and was on scene for the better part of an hour before packing up and leaving.

Corporal Roy said they would be pursuing leads using video surveillance and descriptions they got from witnesses inside the bank at the time.
