Cat Rescued From Moncton Apartment Fire

Moncton firefighters thought they were responding to a baby barn fire this afternoon.

But by the time they arrived, fire had spread to the roof of an apartment building at the corner of Katherine and Noel Streets.

Deputy fire chief Don McCabe says no one was home at the time the fire broke out around 2:30pm.

“We had one cat found inside with smoke inhalation so one of our off-duty firefighters put it on oxygen and the cat is on the way to vet,” he notes.

McCabe says firefighters had to bring ceilings down to help battle the fire and the four unit building will no longer be liveable.

He adds it’s still too early to determine a cause.
