Quispamsis MLA Blaine Higgs Running For PC Party Leadership

Quispamsis MLA and former Finance Minister in the Alward cabinet Blaine Higgs has made it official he’s running for the leadership of the Progressive Conservative party.

Higgs says the reason the province is in desperate shape is because every election we bury it deeper in new spending.

“This government put on the HST purely to cover their new spending. We saw that because we had those problems in 2010. When we got in, we saw that but our whole program with the premier, with my colleagues we said we’re not going to do that in the 2014 election,” Higgs.

Higgs says learning to speak French is going to be interesting and he’s looking forward to it. He says he and his wife are learning the language together.

Higgs and Fredericton West-Hanwell MLA Brian MacDonald are the only declared candidates in the leadership race right now. David Alward stepped down as the leader of the PC party following the party’s defeat by the Gallant Liberals.

The Conservatives will be choosing their new leader in October.
