Dieppe Mayor Plans For Future Expansion And Growth

Mayor Yvon Lapierre of the City of Dieppe is focusing on the future saying residents face both opportunities and challenges.

He says they are coming off a record year of commercial development, raking in $48 million in permits.

Lapierre says further development is coming.

“We know, for example, that in the downtown probably in April, the construction will start of the new hotel in our downtown area, adjacent to Place 1604,” says Lapierre.

He adds they are confident they will see a major road construction on Champlain Street this summer.

“When you look at Champlain street from the intersection here going out to almost Dieppe Boulevard there’s a lot of issues with Champlain street that hasn’t been properly addressed over the many decades that is now way overdue,” says Lapierre.

He adds the City also likes to plan for more than just five or ten years ahead.

“We like to think 15-20 years down the road,” says Lapierre. “So for example we have an application to the Province of New Brunswick to move our boundaries out South-South-East direction towards Shediac.”

Lapierre says while there won’t be immediate development in that area, it makes sense to plan for future expansion now.
