The Special Olympics Winter Games in Newfoundland and Labrador this month wasn’t all about competition. It was about making new friends as well.
31 New Brunswick athletes competed.
Executive Director Josh Astle says socializing is a big part of the event for those competing, “Four years ago, the socializing part was big, the athletes were exchanging emails. They look forward to meeting athletes they’ve met at previous games, but they look forward to meeting new friends as well. Now with social media like Facebook, it keeps people closer, over a longer geographical distance.”
The New Brunswick team brought home 25 medals and many memories as well.
Special Olympics NB also runs weekly programs across the province to keep the athletes active and socializing….
