Dennis Oland Appeals Decision To Deny Him Bail

An appeal has been filed by Dennis Oland’s lawyers on the decision to deny him bail while awaiting the outcome of his appeal on his murder conviction in the slaying of his father.

Lawyers Alan Gold, Gary Miller and Jamie McConnell are asking that Chief Justice of New Brunswick Ernest Drapeau review the decision made by Justice JC Marc Richard last month. Richard stated that though Oland wasn’t a danger to the public or himself, if he was released the public’s confidence in the administration of justice would be undermined.

The motion to have the decision reviewed will be heard on Monday at 2pm at the Court of Appeal in Fredericton’s Justice building.

The appeal on Oland’s conviction won’t be heard until October because a transcript of the trial needs to be created. Oland has been sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole for at least 10 years.
