Just how much money is the provincial government actually saving by closing the courthouses in Sussex and St. Stephen?
That question being posed to provincial Justice Minister Stephen Horsman by Rothesay M-L-A Ted Flemming who argues just because you close something doesn’t mean you’ll save as much money as you might expect.
Horsman says the cost of running those court houses was just one factor in the decision to close them. Pulbic safety in this day and age was a bigger factor.
As for the cost, Horsman says the courthouses that have been closed had the highest cost per capita per charge because of the low volume of court cases.
