Fraudsters continue to try and take advantage through scams using the Canada Revenue Agency name.
Canadians have been receiving calls and emails from these scammers in an attempt to take your money.
Spokesperson for CRA Desmond Arsenault says they would never contact you in these ways and ask for money, “What we want to ensure them, is that the CRA would never send an email with a link asking you to divulge any personal information. We would certainly never request any payments by pre-paid credit card.”
He says, “It’s very challenging because some of the fraudsters are very creative and what they’ll do is have a phone number that will appear as though they are calling from the Canada Revenue Agency.”
If you suspect you have been defrauded by an individual, report it to the RCMP or the Anti-Fraud Centre.
Thousands of these calls and emails have already been reported.
