Crimes committed by young people have been going down over the past two decades after reaching a high in 1991.
Stats Canada is reporting youth crime has fallen by 42% since 2000. By comparison, there has been a 34% decline in the overall crime rate.
The decline in youth crime being attributed to a 51% decrease in the rate of young people accused of property crime, theft under $5,000 and breakins.
For the most part, youth crime involved relatively minor offences.
