Major Fire On Salisbury Road Destroys Several Businesses

Several businesses in a commercial building on Salisbury Road have been destroyed by fire.

Moncton Fire responded to the scene just before 9 last night.

Platoon Chief Brian Gaudet says when they arrived one end of the building was fully engulfed.

He says one of the major challenges was that this building was just outside the city limits, so they did not have access to a nearby hydrant.

Water had to be shuttled in from a nearby location…with the help of a tanker truck from Riverview Fire.

Gaudet says there were also paint products and other flammables in the building, and they fed the fire, causing it to spread even faster.

Firefighters were on the scene for around seven hours.

NB Power was also called in at one point, and several residents on Salisbury Road were left without electricity…while the fire was ongoing.

Fire Investigators will be back on the scene today to try and determine a cause.
