Study Shows GMIA Is Big Economic Generator In Region

The Greater Moncton International Airport helped to generate $665 million of economic activity in the region in 2014.

The number comes from an internal economic impact study which also shows the airport’s important role of attracting more business here.

President/CEO Bernard LeBlanc says the airport also helps create jobs both directly and indirectly.

“The airport itself we only have about 50 employees. There’s over 500 employees at the airport, working for different people, but it generates a total of almost 2800 job in the Greater Moncton region,” LeBlanc.

Passenger numbers continue to climb steadily at the airport and while recent growth in cargo has been small, LeBlanc says the airport is trying to grow the number of dedicated freighters to Europe and Asia.
