Unemployment Rate Rises

The unemployment rate nationally rose last month to 7.2 per cent with the loss of 57 hundred jobs across the country.

Ontario was the only province to record job growth. Employment dropped for workers 55 and older while increasing for women between 25 and 54.

Prime Minister Trudeau says the federal government is aware many people are hurting and will be responding with spending on infrastructure to get things moving.

In New Brunswick, there was the loss of 46 hundred fulltime jobs, partially offset by a gain of 35 hundred part time jobs with the unemployment rate rising to 9.3 per cent.

The unemployment rate in Saint John rose from 7.9 to 8.3 per cent while remaining unchanged in Moncton at 6.2 per cent.
