Doucet Says Privatization Of Extra Mural Is Not Set In Stone

The Liberal Minister for Opportunities NB says nothing is set in stone yet.

That’s the word from Rick Doucet on the privatization of Extra Mural Services to Medavie EMS.

The MLA for Fundy-The Isles-Saint John West says at this stage, they are only in discussions with Medavie, and Extra Mural could possibly be rolled into Ambulance NB and Tele-health.

But, he says, it wouldn’t be that different for employees. “The employees would still be civil servants, same union, same benefits and pensions, all that would be taking place is Medavie would manage. New Brunswickers would not be paying for the service.”

Doucet says this is just something the NB Medical Society and Medavie are working on so they can build upon their strengths, and develop and enhance community-based primary healthcare.

Doucet says the decision is not cast in stone, it’s just a discussion. “How can we work together? Because right now everyone is doing their own thing, but is there a possibility where we can take the synergies of these good operations and bring them together. And that’s the discussions we’re having.”
