Since early December, almost 200 Syrian refugees have arrived in Metro Moncton to start new lives.
The Multicultural Association of the Greater Moncton Area has been challenged with trying to help those refugees integrate into the community.
Spokesperson Justin Ryan says this influx is more than 30 times greater than MAGMA’s normal capacity.
“When we have one family at a time at a week’s notice, that’s manageable. But when we have several families who each have six or seven family members than the same amount of logistics simply wasn’t possible,” he notes.
Fortunately, Ryan says an overwhelming amount of support has come from organizations such as the Red Cross and local Rotary Clubs, all three municipalities in our region and community volunteers.
