Rising Food Costs Putting Strain On Karing Kitchen

You may have noticed the cost of food going up at your local grocery stores.

Not only is that having an impact on your bill, but it’s very difficult on organizations like the Karing Kitchen.

They provide free lunches to those in need five days a week.

Supervisor Phyllis Perry says a lot of the products they buy have gone up, including the cost of milk, meat and vegeatables..

The Karing Kitchen gets a lot of food donated to them as well, but they still do grocery shopping roughly every two weeks.

Perry says her last bill for food at the kitchen was for $700.

Because of the rising food prices, Perry says the number of people coming in for lunch is also rising.

They usually serve between 350 and 400 meals a day in two hours.
