After Slow Start, Moncton Construction Rebounds In 2015

A long, snowy winter helped slow down construction in the Hub City during the first five months of 2015.

The City of Moncton says activity eventually picked up by July and the latter half of the year was more impressive.

Economic development director Kevin Silliker says several large projects got started last summer including a new Ecole Champlain, a special care home on John Street, a new RBC Centre on St. George Boulevard and a Fedex distribution centre in Caledonia Park.

More than 27 percent of building permits for the year were issued in July alone.

Silliker notes many large projects are on the horizon including the redevelopment of Castle Manor, refurbishment of the former Tuttle Brothers building on Lutz Street and a new seniors complex on the Universite de Moncton property.
