Participants To Ring In New Year With A Cold Dip In Dorchester

Up to 40 people will ring in the New year tomorrow with a refreshing start.

They’ll take a dip in the cold water in Dorchester.

Organizer for the Polar Dip Dan Matthews says they’ve been doing this since 1994.

For the first time ever, they don’t have any ice on the pond for participants to jump through, so they’ve come up with an alternate plan.

Instead, they’ll be filling a large basin that is often used by the fire department, with cold pond water, and the participants will be jumping into that instead.

Matthews says they usually get around 100 spectators for the event.

The youngest participant to ever do the Polar Dip in Dorchester was seven years old.

Registration is at 12:30 and the first person goes into the water at 1 o’clock.
