Blood Donors Needed

Many blood donors take a break from making donations over the Christmas break, and that has left Canadian Blood Services short.

Director of Donor Relations for Atlantic Canada Peter Macdonald says the need for blood is constant.

He says, “The challenge is, we have less days to collect blood, but hospital demand continues to carry on. We have a significant amount of vacant appointments until New Years.”

He says there is a need to keep replenishing their inventories because blood is perishable.

During the break, they need more donations, because there are less days to give.

The blood clinic on Mapleton Road is open until 1pm today.
