Canadian Retail Sales Up In 2015

The Retail Council of Canada is reporting an increase in the amount of spending in 2015 compared to recent years.

Atlantic Director Jim Cormier says a retail conditions report is released every December and the results were good.

He says a survey involving 60 retailers that have a presence in every province across the country shows an increase in sales during the fall season, Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Cormier says another reason behind the increase is due to the low Canadian dollar.

He says less people are going south of the border for shopping, which is a huge issue in New Brunswick because of how close the border is.
