Text 911 Expands To Include The Hard of Hearing, Speech Impaired and Deaf Communities

Members of the deaf, hard of hearing or speech-impaired community can now text to 911 all over New Brunswick.

Public Safety Minister Stephen Horsman says Text with 911 gives this community a more efficient way of reaching emergency services making this province safer.

Text with 911 is not intended for the general public but is reserved for the deaf, hard of hearing or speech-impaired.

Lynn Leblanc of Saint John and South-East Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Inc says having access to text with 911 is a major step forward for the deaf and hard of hearing community in the province.

Before using text with 911, also designated as T911, eligible New Brunswickers must first register with their cellphone service provider.
