Pets Not Recommended As Christmas Gifts

The Greater Moncton SPCA will stop adoptions next week, because a new pet might not be the best gift…especially during the festive season.

Executive Director Karen Nelson says it’s a busy time…and that can prove to be very stressful on a new cat or dog.

Instead, she suggests giving the gift of adoption by paying the fee for the person you are giving to, “Get them pre-approved so that when the holidays settle down, then you are ready to go.”

She says gifts that are needed once the pet arrives, are great for under the tree, including a cage, bowls, litter box, collars, or blankets.

The SPCA will begin adopting again on December 27th, and she suggests bringing the family to choose the right pet
