Draft Agreement Produced At Paris Climate Change Conference

Various media sources are reporting a draft agreement has been produced to combat climate change after negotiations in Paris.

The final draft text commits countries to keeping global warming to well below 2 degrees celsius and limit the increase to 1.5 degrees.

The long term goal of the Paris Agreement is a carbon neutral world sometime after 2050.

As well all countries are obliged to publish greenhouse gas reduction targets and revise them every five years.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon says the agreement is historic and sets the world on a new path to low emissions and a climate resilient future.

Federal Green Party Leader Elizabeth May says the Paris Agreement is an ambitious but balanced plan that accommodates concerns of countries and groups around the world.

This accord is the first time all countries are expected to pitch in to fight climate change, where previous emissions treaties have focused only on wealthy countries.
