RCMP and the Anglophone East school district are continuing their investigation into anonymous threats that have been received at Bernice MacNaughton High School.
Several notifications have been sent home to parents, informing them of police presence at the school this week, as they continue to look into the matter.
The District says the investigation to this point, has determined that these threats are of low risk. In a note home to parents yesterday, Prinicipal Judy Roper stated that they have a specific process to follow in the case of anonymous threats first by assessing it.
She says, “First, we assess the threat. We have done this in collaboration with the RCMP and District Officials, and have determined this threat is of low risk. Typically, in low risk situations, we do not notify students, staff or parents as it can cause unnecessary anxiety and stress. However, if students and staff are aware of the incident, even when deemed to be low risk, we communicate with students, staff and families. We do this ensure open and transparent communication and to mitigate and reduce anxiety.”
She also states, “After we assess the risk, we attempt to identify the threat maker and once again we are working in collaboration with the RCMP in this ongoing investigation.”
Both the school and the district say they are committed to keeping staff and students at the school safe.
