A lot of hard work, and a little bit of luck limited the damage caused by a natural gas fire earlier today.
Moncton firefighters were called to 17 Somers street in the Caledonia Industrial Park just before 1 this afternoon.
Deputy Fire Chief Don McCabe says they were lucky NB Power were already in the vicinity.
“As it turned out it was nice to have NB Power here right away because they killed the power right away; so when they were here the wires were cut, and they isolated the building away from the rest of the grid,” says McCabe.
He says they were doubly lucky because Enbridge Gas was also working nearby, ironically on the new fire station and were able to shut off the gas line which reduced the amount of damage to the building.
No injuries reported among either civilians in the building, or firefighters.
