Motorists Are Reminded To Stop For School Buses

Another reminder to motorists, to follow the rules when it comes to school bus safety.

When the lights are flashing and the stop sign is out, you must come to a complete stop.

RCMP Sergeant Gilles Blinn says they’ve had numerous reports across the province of motorists being in a hurry and trying to skirt around the school buses, but you’re advised to stop a think.

He says, “It’s common sense. When you see a yellow school bus, with its lights on, you stop. You don’t want to injure or kill and child, so that’s just common sense.

If you don’t stop, you could be hit with a $300 fine and the loss of several points off your license.

Sergeant Blinn also noted that recent changes to the law, not only the driver of the car can be charged. The registered owner of the vehicle could also be charged, if RCMP are unable to identify the driver when the law is broken.
