For a sixth year in a row, Moncton firefighters are challenging students to read more often.
Arnold H. MacLeod School in Lewisville has been chosen this year with a kickoff tomorrow.
Firefighter Christopher Jackson says students and teachers alike have really been embracing this literacy program.
He says, “We’ve come out with a great series of reading weeks. The firefighters go to the school and divide the school up into groups and read to the students once a week.”
Students look up to firefighters so much that Jackson says when the fire department endorses reading, young people really seem to embrace it.
Jackson adds the grand prize for the student who reads the most is a drive to school in Ladder 5 – Moncton’s largest fire truck.
