Carbon Monoxide Detectors Becoming Common Fixture In Metro Moncton Homes

Smoke detectors are a necessity in every home, but what about a carbon monoxide detector?

Ten years ago, there were very few to be found in homes in Metro Moncton, but now, more and more people are heating their homes with propane, natural gas and wood pellets.

Fire Prevention Officer Steve Richardson says a carbon monoxide detector is recommended, because the gas is clear, it has no smell, and you may not know you have it in your home until it’s too late.

He says that gas can build up in your home, if your heating appliances are not working right, or if you have a major buildup of snow, blocking your ventilation.

A carbon monoxide detector will send out a warning to homeowners, if they are at risk.
