Moncton City Council got a look at the Capital budget for 2016 last night.
The $39.7 million budget calls for gross expenditures of $31.8 million in the general fund for the upcoming year.
The lion’s share of that money, or $25 million is going into transportation.
That money is designated for the purchase of several new buses, road construction and repair, as well as storm shelters and sewer projects.
City Finance Manager John Martin says the cost of the budget will be offset by a number of factors.
“This budget considers 15 million in other government support, either from programs such as the gas tax, or direct contributions,” says Martin. “Also the City will make 7.3 million in contributions from the operating budget.”
City Council did not vote on the budget last night.
They will examine it in more detail at the next Council meeting on October 19th.
