The jury at the second-degree murder trial of Dennis Oland hearing about activity on Richard Oland’s main work computer and his iPhone the day before he was found dead in his office on Canterbury Street in Saint John.
Neil Walker, a senior forensic analyst with the RCMP who is stationed at the headquarters in Dartmouth Nova Scotia, became involved in the Richard Oland case in March of 2012. He says he was asked by his then-boss to help the Saint John police with analysis work on seized computers.
He examined the main computer used by Richard Oland at the office finding the last known human interaction would be the computer user starting the Firefox browser at 5:38pm on July 6, 2011.
Walker says that Richard Oland’s iPhone was disconnected at 4:44pm from that computer on that date. The prosecution earlier stated the only thing missing from Richard Oland’s office was his cell phone. A chat log found on his cell phone shows a string of messages apparently between Richard Oland and Diana Sedlacek and it appears the two were planning to take a trip together.
A message from Sedlacek sent on July 6, 2011 at 12:57pm reads “Let’s leave at Noon on Fri 15th Si we can arrive early enough in Portland – So leave 15th come back on 19th Kisses [sic].”
During cross-examination defence lawyer Alan Gold pointing to the run times on July 6 mentioned by Walker. He says we have nothing to compare them to to see if those times have any significance.
Mr. Justice Jack Walsh telling the jury members that an unexpected issue has arisen and that the trial will not resume again until Thursday morning at 9:30am.
