It’s National Tree Day

Jon MacNeill is the Communications Director for the Conservation Council Of New Brunswick, he says we’re lucky to live in such a green province but there is concern over the amlount of clearcutting that’s taking place on publicly owned land.
MacNeill says trees work almost like air conditioners for communities they border around. A mature leafy tree produces as much oxygen in a season as 10 people inhale in a year and on average, one tree produces nearly 260 pounds of oxygen each year. One tree can also absorb as much carbon in a year as a car produces and a mature tree removes almost 70 times more pollution than a newly planted tree.
MacNeill says the forests are also the home to the great wildlife we have in our province.
The goal of National Tree Day is to raise awareness of the beautiful and endangered forest here in our region of the world.
