UPDATE: Preston Chiasson and Cst. Squires Testify On Day Four Of Dennis Oland Trial

The second degree murder trial of Dennis Oland continuing with more testimony about the discovery of Richard Oland’s body.

Preston Chiasson, who just happened to be in the building where Oland’s office was located, taking the witness stand.

He told the court of going upstairs with Oland’s secretary Maureen Adamson on July 7 and into the office where he says he saw Richard on the floor, slaughtered. Chaisson also described the smell as nauseating and seeing there was nothing he could do, turned around and left before calling police.

Constable Duane Squires arrived shortly after and testified, once upstairs, recognised the smell as that of a decaying body and it was evident Oland died violently. Squires helped move the body adding to prepare for the task he put on a set of booties over his boots and a pair of latex gloves.

Constable Squires says the body was removed from the office at 2:35pm on July 7. The body was placed into the back of a van owned by Brenan’s Funeral Home.

The next day, on July 8, Constable Squires canvassed the area around 52 Canterbury St asking people if they’d seen anything out of the ordinary and asking about video surveillance. He says that by that time most people were aware of what had happened, “more people were asking us questions than we were asking them.”

A photograph of the body of Richard Oland laying face down in a pool of blood being shown on the monitors in the courtroom. Constable Squires points out that there are a set of keys near the body.
