In the Maritime Hockey League, the South Shore Lumberjacks cruised to a 5-1 win over Amherst, Miramichi got by the County Aces 5-2, Valley beat Campbellton 5-3 and Yarmouth edged Woodstock 7-6.
In ‘Q’ League hockey, Saint John won 3-2 over Cape Breton, Acadie-Bathurst shutout Halifax 4-0 and Charlottetown topped Moncton 4-3.
In NHL News, Max Pacioretty has been named captain of the Montreal Canadiens. Also, Marek Zidlicky signing a one year deal with the New York Islanders.
In the majors, Toronto won the opener of its three game series against Boston. Marcus Stroman allowing six hits over seven innings as the Jays beat the Red Sox 6-1. They lead the AL East by 4.5 games after the Mets beat the Yankees 5-1. Elsewhere, the Royals fell 5-4 to the Tigers, Houston lost 4-3 to Oakland, Texas dropped a 3-1 decision to Seattle, the Dodgers beat the Pirates 6-2 while the Cubs were 8-3 winners over St. Louis.
In the CFL, the B.C. Lions lost 35-23 to the Calgary Stampeders.
