Warning From Hospital Unions

The Canadian Union of Public Employees has released a report raising concerns about privatising the management of food preparation and cleaning in hospitals.

The Provincial Government is moving in that direction with negotiations.

The President of the New Brunswick Council of Hospital Unions, Norma Robinson says the union has done research into the companies under consideration and discovered a troubling picture about the quality of services provided.

She warns if standards of cleanliness fall then the risk of infections rises, sometimes with deadly consequences.

She also sees the privatisation of food and cleaning services as being the thin edge of the wedge leading to privatisation of the entire healthcare system.
