The Gallant government is taking a coordinated approach to try and recruit more doctors to New Brunswick.
In the past year, the province has been able to recruit 70 new physicians but that number hasn’t made much of a difference since many doctors are now retiring.
Health Minister Victor Boudreau says the job of a full-time recruitment officer has now been posted.
“That person will work in collaboration with the two health authorities, the medical society and the Department of Health to have a more centralized and coordinated approach to recruiting,” says Boudreau.
The New Brunswick Medical Society estimates about 50,000 people in the province don’t have a family doctor.
