The jury at Dennis Oland’s second degree murder trial in Saint John hearing from Crown prosecutor PJ Veniot that the autopsy performed on Richard Oland shows that he died from multiple sharp blunt force injuries to the head.
Veniot saying that Richard Oland suffered 40 distinct strikes to the head and neck and had six defensive injuries to his hands. His body was found in his Canterbury Street office face down in a pool of blood. According to the Crown prosecutor the only thing missing from the office was Richard Oland’s cell phone.
The weapon was never found.
Veniot telling the jury that when Dennis was asked what he was wearing on July 6, 2011 he said he was wearing a navy blazer, however according to a witness he was actually wearing a brown sportsjacket when he arrived at the office. He says on July 14 a brown sports jacket was seized from Dennis’ home and four areas of blood were found on it and the DNA profile matched that of Richard Oland.
The first witness in the Oland murder trial taking the stand on Wednesday afternoon.
Maureen Adamson, who worked as a secretary for Richard Oland’s investment firm Far End Corporation, testifying that Dennis Oland was making monthly payments of approximately $1660 via post-dated cheques to his father Richard on a $500,000 loan. Veniot says that by the end of June/early July neither the May or June 2011 interest payments had been made.
It was stated in court that Richard Oland was worth more than $30-million.
