Workplace Injuries Remain High In Health Care/Social Services

The risk of getting hurt on the job for those working in health care and social services remains high.

The Workers Compensation Board in Nova Scotia indicates injuries for nurses and long-term care providers continue to lead the pack when it comes to claims.

VP of Prevention Shelley Rowan says it’s related to the duties of the job.

“The types of injuries are basically soft tissue. So lifting or the transfer of patients is basically causing a lot of injuries.”

The most commons injuries relate to muscle, tendons and ligaments.

Rowan says safe lifting protocols are being implemented at many hospitals designed to reduce injuries.

She adds advances in technology is helping move or transfer patients.
