Blue-Green Algae Spreads

More lakes in the province have been contaminated by dangerous blue-green algae which can be fatal to pets and livestock because of toxins that might cause skin, eye and throat irritations as well as severe gastrointestinal illness.

Children are particularly vulnerable as well as people with weakened immune systems.

The first warning from Public Health came in mid July for Harvey Lake.

Now, the algae has been discovered in Lake Washademoak, Grand Lake, Chamcook Lake, Lake Utopia, Lac Baker and Lac Unique.
