Family Of Five Displaced In Moncton After Fire

A fire in Moncton displaced a family of five according to the Canadian Red Cross.

The fire caused extensive damage in the kitchen, and water and smoke damage elsewhere throughout the apartment.

Volunteers with the Red Cross helped the young couple and their three children, aged 2 to 5 with emergency shelter, clothing, food and other essentials.

The building is owned by the New Brunswick Housing Authority, which expects to be able to rehouse them by Monday in a another building while repairs are completed.

The woman, who was alone at the time of the fire, was treated briefly at the hospital for smoke inhalation then released.

The fire was reported around 11 AM in the two storey structure at 30 Lee Drive, other tenants in the building were evacuated for a short time but eventually allowed back in.
