Mark Black knows firsthand what it is like to need an organ transplant.
He is a heart and double lung transplant recipient, who has now dedicated part of his life to raising awareness about organ and tissue donation.
He was born with a congenital heart problem and at the age of 23, he was told he needed a transplant, or he wouldn’t see the age of 25.
He knows what it is like to be waiting, and facing death on a daily basis. He says every night when he went to bed, he didn’t know if he was going to wake up in the morning, and didn’t know when a donor is would be found.
Black says he was fortunate enough to be put on the list, because many people are either to sick or too healthy, and never receive their organ transplant.
He received his transplants in 2002.
This week is organ donation and tissue awareness week.
