A doublebooking at the Moncton Coliseum is proving to be very costly for the taxpayers.
The Moncton Wildcats beat the Halifax Mooseheads 4 to 3 last night, which means there will be a game five in the best of seven series. It was supposed to be played at the Coliseum, but the Radical Speed Sport automobile show has already booked the centre for the weekend.
The game instead has been moved to Fredericton to be played at the Aitken Centre.
That will cost taxpayers $125, 000 to be paid to the Wildcats organization.
Moncton City Council held a special emergency meeting yesterday evening to decide what to do about the conflict, and how to accommodate the team. Three Councillors voted against paying the $125, 000. Councillors Paul Pellerin, Daniel Bourgeois and Brian Hicks.
Director of Business Operations for the Moncton Wildcats Ryan Jenner says they understand this is not an ideal situation, but it is the best option given the circumstances.
Seats will be held in Fredericton for anyone who has already purchased a ticket for Friday night’s game. Any season or flex ticket package holder who has a ticket but can’t go to Fredericton will get a credit against their 2015-16 season ticket package.
